Headquartered in Chico, California, Advanced Light Technologies, LLC is a privately held scientific research and development company. Advanced Light Technologies develops and licenses innovative light-based solutions for medical, healthcare, agricultural, industrial, security, and other applications, utilizing our patented Applied Photo Mechanics technology.

Applied Photo Mechanics grew from the scientific and engineering work of founder Brian Pierce, who created a technique for identifying the precise wavelengths of electromagnetic energy that would heat and kill a target substance without damaging the host. Beginning in 1992, resources were focused on improvements in processes and devices for drying agricultural products. This unique application of light technology was expanded to include insect control.

Testing was then conducted in cooperation with California State University, Chico and the University of California at Davis, as well as with commercial agricultural processors. US Patent 5,820,820 was granted in 1998. In 2001, US patent application 8422/5 was filed for medical, agricultural, and industrial application to cover the process of identifying and exploiting differential absorption.
